Got stuck? Have a question about a particular rule? This FAQ should help guide you through any problems you might face while navigating the Forest.

Components

This is a misprint in the first edition of the Story Book. The correct status is called "Reckless", and reduces care by one point. This was corrected in v2.1 of the story book, which you can download here.

If you're using the Deluxe Story Book available as part of the Kickstarter campaign, you can download a printable insert to serve as a reminder of this issue here.

This is a misprint in the first edition of the rulebook. There are only six Skills in the game, each with one card: care, force, guile, speed, wits and style.

This is a misprint in the first edition of the game. The Torrent card incorrectly shows the same numbers as The Dark Web encounter.

The Digital Story Book will prompt you to clarify which encounter you're currently facing for both of these cards. This has also been accounted for in v2.2 of the PDF Story Book with some additional prompts. You can download the latest copy here.

If you're using the Deluxe Story Book available as part of the Kickstarter campaign, you can download a printable insert including the correct paragraph numbers here.

Shades

No. Becoming a Shade is completely optional, and up to each player.
No. Second Sight is a vision that happens only in the Shaman’s mind. The Shades have no way of knowing what happened, so their bet must remain unchanged for the second attempt.

Items

No. The only thing that can revive a fallen Character is the Sorcerer’s Arcane Ritual.
The party always works together, so you can think of the items as a shared resource and exchange them whenever required. Even if a player runs out of life points, you don't need to leave any items behind (unless you physically can't extract it from their furious grasp!)

Statuses & Skills

Yes. For example, if the Thief is already Energetic (taking their speed from Good to Great) and then the Bard used their Soul-Binding Ballad, the Thief would be able to use Epic speed for that Encounter.
No. If your Character card does not include a particular skill, the only thing that can give you access to that Skill is the Champion’s Mask.

Abilities

A Bard under the effects of the Soul-Binding Ballad will take exactly the same amount of damage as the target. For example, if the target is a Warrior with Thick Skin, the Bard would also benefit from their damage-reducing Ability.
The Arcane Ritual works by transferring life from the survivors to the fallen character. The Sorcerer has the final say on when this ability is used, and how much life to take from each survivor.
